On The Right Side of History

Time flies, so the adage goes! People come and go. We read their history and biographies as though we will live forever, but no one lives forever. We are all fading like vapor. Our history is being written already. After the chapter of our history is closed, will we be on the right side of history?

In the biblical text, we read stories of many who rejected, denied, and betrayed the One True God. We grieve, laugh, and speak about how their lives ended. We talk about Judas Iscariot, and how after hearing all of Jesus’ sermons could betray Him in the manner he did. We easily chastise, undermine, and even insult him because we believe he was on the wrong side of history. We easily forget that our history is being written. The blood of Christ that speaks “mercy” will one day be our justification or condemnation. One day, the One who died would either be a savior or judge. Are you preparing for His appearing? In Revelation, He speaks, ‘“Yes, I am coming quickly.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus” (Rev. 22:20). The words of Jesus suggest the certainty of His coming and appearing. He didn’t say I might come or I may come. Rather, He said, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” The Holy Church responds, “Come, Lord Jesus.” Oh, how many a man would be so bold to say this. A greater number of the churchmen would have responded, “tarry and hesitate a bit longer, Lord.”

A time is coming brothers and sisters, where he would say, “Let the one who does wrong, still do wrong; and the one who is filthy, still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and the one who is holy, still keep himself holy” (Rev. 22:11). At this time, it will be over for everyone. If you were on His side, happy will you be. Alas! If you were against Him, woe is you! His coming is fast approaching. Tomorrow might be too late. This is the wrong time to be a lukewarm Christian. This is not the time for lackadaisical Christianity. If we do not live for Him today, then, when? Are we preparing ourselves for the right side of history or the wrong side? Are we with God or against God? It is impossible and improbable to be in the middle.

We have only one life to live, but we can either waste it or makes the most of it. This is mutually exclusive. That is, it cannot be both. If we do not live for Christ, we will waste our lives. Our history would be read, but sadly, we would be on the wrong side of history. When God’s people gather, we would miss out. There is no time, but we can redeem the little time we have by siding with Christ today. Soli Deo Gloria
